Male en pointe
Since I was given the option to go en pointe I did. Because of doing pointe I have been able to correct my right foot alignment and I have gotten a better turn. In my dance class I was the first of seven boys to go en pointe and now there are four boys including myself en pointe in my class.
Kevin, I'm delighted to hear that your teacher is not prejudiced against boys en pointe, because unfortunately it does happen in ballet schools. I'm not surprised that you've been able to get a better turn: I remember the same thing happening to me when I first went en pointe, partly because the reduced friction made it easier for me to turn. It also helped me understand the importance of a perfect "centre", and made it easier for me to work out why I was going off balance. Once I'd got the feeling en pointe, it was easier to translate back to turns in soft shoes.
Normally I would be worried about someone going on pointe after only two years' study, but boys' feet and legs can develop strength more quickly than girls and I'm sure your teacher knows what she is doing. Good luck with it!
