Gaynor Minden’s Topline Elastic
Ballet mom Thomie says:
I'm trying to rethread the topline elastic on a gaynor minden pointe shoe. For regular ballet shoes I simply use a bobkin(a blint tiped flat needle like thing) but it's too wide for the small channel. I've even tried to thread dental floss thru with a blunt tipped needle and then tried to tie it to the elastic to pull thru........didn't work an ideas and of course the young lady needs her shoe asap
Thomie, I emailed you a reply to this but I forgot to post it on the site - sorry!
I won't ask what happened to the original elastic . . . but I have to admit, I'm stumped on how to replace it. The only question I'd ask is - why is it so important? If a pointe shoe is fitted properly, there should be so little gaping that missing elastic won't matter that much, and she should be able to dance perfectly well in the shoes without it.
This is a very challenging problem! As I explained in my post on how to sew Gaynor Mindens, these are very tough shoes. That's a good thing in one way, but a pest when you're trying to sew on ribbons or make any kind of repair.
