That will take the pressure off your big toe, and it's the pressure that's causing the pain. You could try self-adjusting gel pads (where the gel is supposed to move around and fill the gaps), like Toeflo. Lamb's wool is another option - make it thicker under the second and third toes. I'd also recommend trying another shoe next time, one that's specifically for Egyptian feet (which is what you've got).
