Emma, you don't need much padding under your big toe - instead, you need more padding under the other toes to even them up,so the other toes can take some of the weight. That will take the pressure off your big toe, and it's the pressure that's causing the pain. You could try self-adjusting gel pads (where the gel is supposed to move around and fill the gaps), like Toeflo. Lamb's wool is another option - make it thicker under the second and third toes.

I'd also recommend trying another shoe next time, one that's specifically for Egyptian feet (which is what you've got).

Hi

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on padding. The class I attend is purely a fun class (though serious in technique etc). As we don't have aspirations to be professionals or take exams, our teacher is encouraging us to find the padding that suits us best.

I am currently using ouch pouches which were given to me as fairly standard when I bought my first pair of pointe shoes. I have quite a long big toe, and I'm finding the tip is bruising and aching when I go on pointe, and for some time after the 30 minute class. Can you recommend a padding that might help to solve this problem?

Thanks

You're right, Rebecca, it's a steady job trying to keep up with the changes in manufacturer's ranges. I usually leave the page "up" after a model goes out of production, because suppliers may still have some in stock, and private individuals are still selling them on eBay. But it is probably time I deleted a few of them!

I have been comparing your list of shoes to the manufacturer's websites and quite a few of them do not seem to be made any longer. I have looked at Russian Pointe, So Danca, Sansha and Suffolk. Has this list been updated recently?

Dear all - just a quick update o the Flyte Pointe Shoe - it has been undergoing its final trials and alterations and will be available in 5-6 outlets in the UK this summer. We have improved the lateral stability as well as the support in the vamp and feel of the floor. The shoe has been trialled by vocational and professional dancers and we feel we are now happy with the final product though it has taken 4 years longer than we initially thought - please go to the website and we will keep you up-to-date with when the shoe will be available to purchase - it will never be available on the internet as it needs to be fitted properly by a trained fitter

Yes, there are exercises you can do! The absolute best solution is to buy the Perfect Pointe Book, which is packed full of different exercises you can do.
